Information about Frisco, Texas

Frisco circa 1900:

Located 25 miles north of Dallas Frisco, TX was established in 1902 as Emerson, for Francis Emerson on whose land the settlement was located, the name was changed when an application for a post office was denied since the name was too similar to Emberson in Lamar County. The settlement decided to utilize the existing post office in a community two miles north named Eurida until 1904 when the people selected the name Frisco City for their town in honor of the railroad which founded the young city. It was soon shortened to Frisco and the Post Office Department approved the new name.

Frisco, TX became a center for trade in the surrounding farm community and in 1908 the residents elected to make their community an incorporated city with Frisco’s first municipal government. The 1910 census listed the population in Frisco at 332. That grew to 733 by 1920 and stayed fairly constant through the 40s and 50s (736 in 1950).  By 1960 population had grown to 1,184 and to 3,499 in 1980. The nineties brought rapid population growth swelling Frisco to 21,400 by 1997.  Currently Frisco has just over 102,000 residents with a projection of 280,000 when built out in 2025.
